The Portégé 4000 is a very tough notebook designed to give mobile professionals the reliability they need and expect from the leading mobile vendor.

The Portégé 4000 is very solid and robust because it combines a superb 12.1" polysilicon TFT display with a shockproof magnesium case.

The Portégé features advanced power management and low power consumption, with battery life of over 4 hours.

Adding a second battery to the Slim SelectBay slot in conjunction with the special SuperLongLife mode of the Toshiba power management system allows the system to run for over 9 hours without the need for a power outlet.

This gives a complete working day on the road.

The package incorporates a low voltage 750 MHz Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processor featuring SpeedStep™ technology that provides enough power to handle all standard office software applications.

In addition, the standard 128 MB of memory can be expanded up to 1,024 MB.

This ensures enough performance capability to cope with more demanding applications.

Physical protection is provided in the shape of a slot for a Kensington cable lock.

Unauthorised access to the system itself is prevented through different levels of passwords or through an optional fingerprint PC Card. Only a registered user can then access the system.

On request, Toshiba also provides a hard disk password, which is stored partially on the system and partially on the hard disk controller.

This means it is not possible to access data even if the hard disk is used with another system.

This is a highly secure utility, which is provided on request only.

There is a new Advanced Port Replicator for the Portégé 4000, which is also compatible with other Toshiba professional notebooks such as the Tecra 9000.

This new docking solution will be forwards compatible at least with the next Portégé series and also with other future Toshiba business notebooks.

All standard ports are replicated on this cable management device.
