What is TEMPRO?
TEMPRO is a software service developed by Toshiba. It will advise you on how to fine-tune the performance of your notebook and keep you informed of the latest Toshiba software and driver updates as soon as they are released. It does this by delivering various types of alerts into a special TEMPRO inbox area on your notebook PC.

TEMPRO will not run unless you have agreed to this.

TEMPRO will not automatically update or download software to your notebook PC, it will always ask you to do this by asking you to click on a link.

TEMPRO will collect anonymous usage data from your PC to help you improve the performance of your notebook and decide what alerts should be shown to you. This data doesn’t include any personal information about you but looks at the serial number, notebook model number, language, country code and hardware performance values. The privacy statement gives full details on what data is collected and how it is used.

How do I get to use TEMPRO?
TEMPRO is only available to Toshiba notebook PCs running Windows® Vista™ and may either be preloaded on your notebook or it can be downloaded from our website.

If TEMPRO is preloaded you will see a Toshiba TEMPRO icon in the Windows Welcome Center and on the Desktop. Click on this icon to launch the TEMPRO service. You can also access TEMPRO through the Control Panel.

What type of alerts does TEMPRO show?
The first time you connect to the internet and TEMPRO is running, you will receive a Welcome Message. This indicates that TEMPRO is working correctly and that alerts can be sent from the Toshiba Support Centre to your notebook. You can receive three different types of alerts.

Service Alerts
TEMPRO is an easy and convenient way of keeping up-to-date with important service messages and new software and driver updates from Toshiba. These are specific to your notebook model. TEMPRO will not automatically update or download software to your PC, it will always ask you to do this by showing you a link to a web page.

Notebook Performance Alerts
TEMPRO will check the performance of your notebook and advise on how to fine tune its usage, such as memory and disk drives. Your PC does not need to be connected to the internet as these alerts are displayed automatically when a certain condition occurs. The alerts will give you details of the condition and suggest ways of fixing it.

New TEMPRO Software Release Alerts
Occasionally Toshiba may issue a new release of the TEMPRO software and you will receive a special alert informing you of this. A web link will take you directly to the download page so that you can update your software. If no action is taken and the same condition continues to exist, the alert will show once every week to keep you informed. You can deactivate any of these specific individual alerts at anytime.

How important are these TEMPRO alerts?
Each alert that you receive will be colour coded according to its importance:

Grey (Information)

Amber (Warning) These are warning messages that a condition has occurred

Red (Critical) Some immediate action is needed to rectify the situation)

How often will I receive these alerts?
Your notebook performance alerts such as disk space and memory will be raised as soon as they are detected, as your PC does not need to be connected to the internet.

For all other alerts TEMPRO will check with the Toshiba Support Centre when you connect to the internet, to see which messages are specific to your notebook model. Service messages will be checked every day, driver alerts and TEMPRO software releases will be checked once a week.

How do I start or stop the TEMPRO service from running?
You can select to run the TEMPRO service in one of the following ways:

Full Monitoring (recommended)

TEMPRO will inform you of notebook performance alerts, service alerts and software driver updates for your notebook model. To start the TEMPRO service and receive full monitoring, select the Enable option.

Service Messages only
TEMPRO will not raise notebook performance alerts, but will inform you of important service messages only. To select this mode choose option Receive important service alerts only.

No Monitoring
TEMPRO will not inform you of any alerts. To stop the TEMPRO service completely, select the Disable option. To start the service again at a later date you will need to click on the TEMPRO icon in the Windows Welcome Center or Desktop and select the Enable option. TEMPRO is also accessible through the Control Panel.

How do I read my new alert messages?
New service alerts are received into your Current Alerts area in TEMPRO as soon as you connect to the internet. A check is made on the notebook model that you own and whether there are any alerts that are associated with that model and country/language version.

When a new alert is generated you will see a pop-up message appear at the bottom right of your screen. You can click on this message or the TEMPRO icon in the system tray to read your alerts.

If the alert is a notebook performance alert it will be raised immediately, as it doesn’t need a connection to the internet.

Alerts are displayed in date and time order and you can browse through these current alerts using the NEXT and the PREVIOUS buttons. Once you have read an alert, click on the Mark as Read option and it will be moved to your Alert History.

How do I refer back to an old alert message?
Once you have selected Mark as Read the alert moves into the Alert History area. Your last 100 alerts will be listed here in date and time order. To view the details click on the individual alert.

If the alert has been monitoring a specific condition, then you can Deactivate this specific alert and you will not be reminded again. If no action is taken and the same condition continues to exist, the alert will be shown once every week to keep you informed.

What if I want to temporarily stop TEMPRO messages popping up?
Sometimes you may want to temporarily stop messages popping up at the bottom of your screen, particularly if you are using your Toshiba Notebook to run a presentation to other people. You can stop these pop-ups from appearing by clicking on the TEMPRO icon in the System Tray and selecting Exit. When the notebook is rebooted then the TEMPRO pop-up messages will re-enabled.
