The ICO provides all you need to know about the Data Protection Act, and have the legal power to ensure organisations comply and meet the obligations of the Act.
The Data Protection Act requires those that handle personal information to comply with a number of important principles, and the ICO produces detailed guidance to help organisations and individuals do exactly that.
However the ICO also has legal powers to ensure organisations comply with the requirements of the act; including the power to issue information and enforcement notices, conduct audits and prosecute offenders.
