Hardware Encryption

Advantages:

  • No recurring charges: There is a one-time purchase cost and no on-going license or maintenance fees.
  • No degradation of computer performance: The encryption/decryption function is performed by a processor located on the disk assembly. There is no involvement by the PC processor and thus no slow down.
  • Secure solution: The encryption key is never held in RAM or on the hard drive, thus is not accessible by potential hackers.
  • Operating System and Application independent: The PC will run with any Operating System, patch or Application
  • Optional dual factor authentication: User authentication can be done via a password and/or hardware USB token

Disadvantages:

  • Higher initial cost: compared to a software solution, the initial cost may be higher.
  • Physical installation: If not factory fitted, the encrypted disk needs to be installed in lieu of the existing drive
