With our stylish Toshiba AT200 tablet, we set out to create one of the best touchscreen devices you can buy. But what was the thinking behind its design and what does the future hold for tablets in general? We’ve been finding out.
To hear more about the Toshiba tablet range, we grabbed a coffee with Paul Hicks, our Tablet Product Manager, and the first thing we asked him was what he feels makes Toshiba tablets stand out from the crowd so effortlessly.
“With our strong heritage in consumer technology, we combine expertise in both the TV and laptop market to provide consumers with excellent audio-visual experiences on their tablets, while keeping them connected” he told us.
“Not only do we offer the Toshiba AT100, which packs full size connectivity and a replaceable battery, but we also have the world’s thinnest and lightest 10.1-inch tablet, in the form of the sleek and stylish Toshiba AT200.”
Eye-catching designs aside, what are the key features of the Toshiba AT200 that make it among the best touchscreen tablets for the whole family to enjoy? “The key feature of this device, and the Toshiba AT100 before it, is connectivity”, Paul said.
“This is prominent in many other Toshiba product areas, including laptops, Ultrabooks and TV’s”, he continued, “with extensive connectivity on Toshiba tablets including micro HDMI/mini HDMI, SD/Micro SD and USB/Micro USB.”
“Toshiba tablets can be easily connected to peripheral devices such as HD TV’s, to share videos, photos and music; USB connectivity means files can be easily shared; and the memory card slots makes it easy to expand storage.”
And so where do our tablets fit into the rest of our mobile PC range and what role do they fill in the PC market in general? “The easy answer is that Toshiba tablets are complementary devices to our mobile PC range”, says Paul.
“We offer a range of products for a wide demographic and so whether you’re considering a tablet, notebook, netbook, All-in-One PC or Ultrabook, we have a suitable product covering a variety of screen sizes and operating systems.”
Just what is the future of Toshiba tablets and can we expect the range to develop in the coming months? “The tablet category has shown strong growth since its introduction and growth is expected in 2012 and beyond” Paul said.
“We see huge potential and this is a significant focus and opportunity for us. We recently demonstrated two concept tablets in both 7-inch and 13-inch sizes, showing the potential of other tablet sizes Toshiba are considering.
“In addition to this, Toshiba will continue to offer premium designs, excellent connectivity, the latest generation processors and cutting-edge operating systems, to offer the best tablet experience possible for customers.”
With such exciting innovations on the horizon and more great tablets on the way in the months ahead, our touchscreen range is set to grow stronger than ever, to bring you the best in powerful, yet portable, mobile computing.
